DETAILS

Below is the schedule and pertinent support information for currently released Oracle Database base releases and patch sets. A patch set is only added once it is released on the base platform, so no future patch sets are shown. The table below represents the most accurate information Oracle can provide, and is updated frequently.

Because Support cannot provide any dates other than these to customers, please do not log a Service Request asking for a schedule update.

Sched TBA = Schedule To Be Announced

DD-MMM-YYYY: Available, date shown is when the patch set was made available on My Oracle Support/MetaLink

1H or 2H CYyyyy: Date falls within the 1st half (six months) or 2nd half of Calendar Year. For example 1H CY2009 means "some time within the first six months of 2009".

Qn CYyyyy: Date falls within the nth Quarter (3 month period) of the Calendar Year specified. For example Q2 CY 2009 means "sometime within the second quarter of 2009, ie between April and June 2009".

Unsupported platform - means that no further Database releases will be ported to this platform

Patching for previous release ends: explained in next section.

Patch Set Roadmap

To help you plan ahead, below is a roadmap of patch sets for Oracle Database major releases 11.1 and beyond, showing planned release dates and the duration of their support lives in relationship to the overall release life. The chart is by nature somewhat simplified so be sure to read the details below it to help you interpret it correctly.

Information is shown for current major releases since 11.1 only (i.e. no future releases). Patchsets are released on different platforms over time. Once a patchset is released on the first platforms (usually Linux), the schedule for release on other platforms will be added to the table above.

Database Patch Set Release Roadmap

Database release=

How To Interpret The Roadmap

Major divisions of the Roadmap are years, and minor divisions are calendar quarters.

The timeline shows all currently-supported releases and their patch sets. For each group there is a line at the top for the major release lifecycle, and smaller lines below for patch sets. The future dates for patch sets are shown based on a general plan - actual dates may vary. For the most up-to-date schedule, see the table above.

Major releases - Designated by the 2nd place in the version number (e.g. 12.1.0.x) and shown as the wider red bar in the Roadmap. Lifetime Support Policy dates apply to the major release as a whole. The Premier Support phase is shown in solid color and Extended Support is designated by the diagonal line pattern. For the most current information on the Lifetime Support Policy for Oracle Database see Lifetime Support Policy - Oracle Technology Products.

NOTE: The fee for the first year of Extended Support for 11.2 has been waived for all customers. The Premier Support timeline has been extended one year to show that customers do not need to pay the Extended Support fee to receive Error Correction Support for that first year.

Patch sets - Designated by the 4th place in the version number (e.g. 12.1.0.2), and shown by the narrower green/gray bars below their associated major release. The plan is for:

  • 1 patch set for an x.1 major release (e.g. 11.1). If required we may release a second patch set one or more years after the first.
  • 3 patch sets for other major releases, issued one year apart with the exception of the last, which may be issued anywhere from 12 to 24 months or more from the second patch set. For example, 11.2.0.4 was released 23 months after 11.2.0.3.
  • When a new patch set is released, new fixes for the previous patch set level are created for a period of time to allow supported overlap:
    • First patch set after a base release: one year to install the first patch set while receiving fixes for the base release
    • Second and later patch sets: two years to install while receiving fixes for the previous patch set
    • The length of the lines for each patch level indicate the period during which new patches are created for that version
    • The supported time starts with the first release of a patch set on any platform; since other platforms are released later the supported time for the release on those would be less than the the full period BUT in no case will less than 3 months overlapping support be given
    • Oracle may in some cases give a longer time to install a new patch set than the standard times shown above - if so the actual dates will be reflected in the roadmap and patching end date table in this document.

Patch Set Updates and Critical Patch Updates - Patch Set Updates and Critical Patch Updates are released quarterly during the patching period for each patch set as shown in the roadmap. and so are not listed separately on the Roadmap.

Patching end date

The date up to which Oracle will provide patches, PSUs, or CPUs for the previous release/patch level on all platforms (exceptions noted in the table above). After the patching end date we will no longer provide patches (including Patch Set Updates and Security Patch Updates) for that patch set on any platform. This period is to allow customers adequate time to plan for the installation of the new patch set. For your convenience the dates are listed below, and a full description of the patching support policies is given in Database, FMW, EM Grid Control, and OCS Software Error Correction Support Policy (Doc ID 209768.1).

The patching end dates for the different release/patch levels are as follows unless noted otherwise in the table below. The most recent patchsets are not listed because the patching end date will not be set until the next patch set for that version is released - until then the effective end date is the same as the end of Extended Support for the major release (e.g. 10.2.0.5 patching ends on 31-July-2015).

Premier and Extended Support dates for all current releases (e.g. 10.2 or 11.2) can be found in the Oracle Lifetime Support Policy - Oracle Technology Products datasheet. Note that although 10.2 Extended Support begins in August 2010, Extended Support fees have been waived for the first year for all customers, and longer for customers on certain platforms - for more information see the Oracle Technical Support Policy document section 6.

Notes:

111.1.0.7 is the last patch set for Release 11.1. Future integrated error correction will come in the form of Patch Set Updates. See Patch Set Updates for Oracle Products (Doc ID 854428.1) for current details.

2 Base release - download from otn.oracle.com.

310.2.0.5 is the last patch set for Release 10.2. Once patching ends for 10.2.0.4, future integrated error correction will come in the form of Patch Set Updates. See Patch Set Updates for Oracle Products (Doc ID 854428.1) for current details.

4The start of Extended Support no longer forces customers to run the last patch set in order to receive new fixes (such as PSU or CPU) - 10.2.0.4 will be patched up until the end date listed above.

5Patching end date for 10.2.0.4 has been pushed back from the original 30-Apr-2011 date. See the announcement in Database Patch Set 10.2.0.4 patching extended to July 31, 2011 (Doc ID 1293180.1)

6TBD: Patching end date will be set once the next patch set is released.

7Patching end dates for terminal patchsets of a release are equivalent to the end of Extended Support. An Extended Support contract is required to receive patches once a release enters the Extended Support phase. See the Lifetime Support Policy covering Technology Products for dates of Extended Support.

8 Oracle Database Release 11.2 will be the last release on HP-UX PA-RISC. See Support Status for Oracle Database on HP-UX PA-RISC systems (Doc ID 1313798.1) for details.

9 Itanium-based systems (HP-UX, Windows, and Linux): Additional Extended Support has been made available for these platforms. The patching end date table above reflects the new end of Extended Support. See Oracle Software Technical Support policies for more details.

10 11.2.0.4 is the last patch set for Release 11.2. Future integrated error correction will come in the form of Patch Set Updates. See Patch Set Updates for Oracle Products (Doc ID 854428.1) for current details.

11 12.1.0.2 is currently released only as Enterprise edition - see doc 1905806.1 for details.

12 12.1.0.2 is the last patch set for Release 12.1. Future integrated error correction will come in the form of Patch Set Updates. See Patch Set Updates for Oracle Products (Doc ID 854428.1) for current details.

  • Future Oracle Database releases are planned for the other platforms but due to Oracle's revenue recognition policy we are unable to publish those schedules at this time. This schedule only includes releases which have already been released on at least one platform.
  • Last Patch Set: When Oracle knows which patch set will be the last for a particular release, it will be indicated but designation as such is at Oracle's discretion and subject to change without notice.
  • Solaris x86-32: The last patch set for this platform is 10.2.0.4.
  • Solaris x86-64: Oracle has elevated the Solaris x86-64 to equal priority with SPARC Solaris for future Database releases. Customers should expect more timely releases and patch sets for the Solaris x86-64 platform
  • 32-bit clients: 32-bit clients are shipped with some patch sets, but the schedule is the same as for the rest of the patch set unless otherwise noted.
